Trinity College is located close to Dublin city center, on the south side of the River Liffey. The University was founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1592 and built on the site of the former Priory of All Hallows.
King Henry VIII gave All Hallows priory to the Mayor, bailiffs & citizens of Dublin and their descendants for support during the rebellion of Thomas FitzGerald, 10th Earl of Kildare in July 1534, also known as the " Silken Thomas" rebellion. During the 1916 uprising field artillery was positioned in Trinity College by British forces and shelled rebel positions at Bolands Mills & O'Connell Street.
